Abstract

This article aims to analyse booming initiatives which are now being developed in some countries centred in the development of an energy transition. On the one hand, it analyses the Transition Towns and Post Carbon Cities movements which, prioritising the energy transition, they also promote the creation of decentralized and sustainable economies. On the other hand, it describes many types of initiatives (municipal utilities, cooperatives, crowd-funding, local investment, etc.) which are pushing forward energy transition processes. At the same time, the conventional energy oligopolies are promoting a strong counteroffensive against the “disruptive technologies”, and they are obtaining some success.
